While it would be hurtful to call the Dothraki a mindless horde of howling barbarians, to the untrained observer their methods of attack may look just that. The Dothraki khalasar typically number thousands of horsemen, even the weakest of whom have spent most of their lives in the saddle. Although they are only lightly armoured, the Dothraki's horsemanship skills make it extremely difficult to reach them with a blade - even in close-range melee combat.
